Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the new and improved features:
- Siri – use your voice to use your iPhone just by talking to it like a person for example “call gizmo for my computer repairs in the morning”.
- Camera – 8megapixels and better optics for even better pictures.
- Video – 1080HD video, that’s DVD quality!
- Performance – if you’re a gamer or avid YouTube watcher you’ll love the Dual-Core A5 chip which gives you twice as much power and up to 7x faster graphics.
- iOS – the latest operating system means greater ease of use and more advanced features.
- iCloud – it will store your music, photos, apps, mail, contacts, calendars and documents not on your phones storage but in the ‘cloud’ which you can wirelessly push to all your devices.
- Retina Display – provides the highest resolution in phone screens available so no matter how much you zoom in, your eye won’t even register a pixel!
All the 3 major telcos have plans readily available, and they do vary greatly, so do your research. There are 3 main things to consider:
- Storage. The iPhone 4S comes in 3 models each with different storage amounts: 16GB, 32GB & 64GB. What type of user are you? If you think you’ll only need your phone for emails, then 16GB will be sufficient, but if you’re a heavy entertainment user (apps, movies, emails, you name it) then don’t consider anything less than 64GB. Also, consider that you may have your phone for a couple of years, so what might suit you now, might not in 6 months time.
- Data Caps. These range from 200MB, through to 5GB per month. Think about what type and how frequently you use the data. You’re a low user if for example you catch up on the news, a medium user if you’re into social networking or browsing the internet, but heavy if you do all that plus stream videos, are app crazy and just like to make the most of your hot little entertainment device.
- Handset repayment costs. Generally the higher your data plan, the cheaper your handset cost (even free in some cases), to $57 per month.
