Let's gets started. First you'll need Windows Media Player on your computer, it has a built in UPnP server. Then you'll need to download an open source Java application called PS3 Media Server, this will help configure pretty much everything under the sun with zero configuration, so you can play anything from Internet TV / web radio, Pod casts, all kind of videos (AVI, MP4, TS, M2TS, MPEG), Real-time video transcoding via MEncoder, Display camera RAWs thumbnails (Canon / Nikon, etc.), get the idea! Now, move and store all your files in the Windows Media Player library, then click on the Videotab section to access them through your PS3. You will find a new entry called PS3 Media Server, in there you'll be able to access to all of the drives on your computer, even the network shares. For example, you could stream your latest photos from your family holiday while playing music from your itunes library, perfect for those family catch ups! You can do the same trick using an Xbox, although your need to download the appropriate media server. If you'd like assistance, turning your console into a media extender, give us a call and we can book a Show Me & Install Me and a trained gizmotech will help get you going.
