The most secure online backup solution available

Forget hackers, with gizmo online backup your data is encrypted or coded before it leaves your PC (using 256-bit AES encryption for the tech-heads). It goes up the line to Datacastle (with yet another layer of coding) and is stored in the same encrypted form. Unlike other online backup providers, Datacastle never decodes your files. We’ll store your passwords securely in our system or if you’re after even more reassurance you can create and keep your own Passphrase so you and only you have the key to unlock your data.

So, why Datacastle?

We chose Datacastle because we reckon they’re the best in the business.  They’ve been looking after big business and governments around the world and now you can enjoy those same high standards. They match the security standards used by the US Government. So if that’s good enough for President Obama’s Blackberry….

How it works. Set it. Forget it.

Maybe the best thing about gizmo online backup is that once you’re set up you don’t need to do a thing. Just select the files you want backed up and Datacastle does its job. Every hour, the system automatically checks for any changes or updates and uploads those files.

You can backup and restore all standard files including Microsoft® Word, Excel spreadsheets, Outlook PST as well as photos, music, videos and more.

You can check the status of your backup at any time with an easy on-screen interface. And whether you need to restore your whole library or a single file you trashed accidentally, it’s easy. The system saves every hourly version of a document in progress from the past seven days, so if there’s an earlier version of a document you want to go back to, you can. Just like having your own time machine.

Check out our plans

Which plan do I need? How many songs make a Gigabyte? How much room does my photo library need?

Use this table to help you decide which plan will have you covered. Keep in mind that these figures are estimates only as file size can vary depending on things like resolution, length and so on. If you want to check the actual file size for any one of your files, simply right click the file you want to check, click on ‘Properties’, and then under the ‘General’ tab, you will see the actual file size.

When choosing the backup plan that’s right for you, you should also consider the following:

  • Which files are most important to you? Which ones would you not be able to replace, such as your photos, MYOB records or your CV?
  • What is your ISP’s bandwidth plan? This way there is no guessing what your upload allowance is before you confirm your plan.

The technical bits

Here’s what you’ll need to get going:

  • Computer: Your PC should have a Pentium III processor with a 1GHz minimum
  • Internet Connection: Broadband
  • Memory: 1GB minimum of available RAM
  • Hard Disk Space: 1GB of free space
  • Operating System: You’ll need to be running Microsoft® Windows XP orMicrosoft® Windows Vista

Although your broadband speed doesn’t matter, it obviously affects the time it takes to upload files. Check with your ISP that your upload allowances will cover your chosen backup plan. This will ensure you avoid any nasty excess usage charges when you receive your ISP bill.

They say the first time’s often the hardest! Depending on the size and quantity of stuff that you’re backing up, your first backup could take a day or two. Once that’s done, however, backup will be much quicker as gizmo online backup will only upload new or specific changes within a file.
